Booking Accommodation in Lanzarote

By admin | September 7, 2010

How do first time visitors find the best places to stay on Lanzarote? There are a number of websites dedicated to this popular island as well as plenty of impartial forums on sites such as Trip Advisor where tourists can get unbiased reviews and advice.

These days most tourists find and book their hotels and villas in Lanzarote online. Although some still prefer to use the services of conventional tour operators. But they can often prove more expensive and as a result the market for independent travel on the island has mushroomed over the last decade. Not least as consumers can now book their whole break – including flights to Lanzarote – direct themselves.

Lanzarote apartments are also popular as they offer great value accommodation with prices starting from about €180 per week. And the bulk of the best complexes are located in the resort of Puerto del Carmen. Which is in fact the oldest resort on the island and the spot where tourists first started touching down back in the 1970´s.

At this time Lanzarote was still a novel holiday destination and the newest place to visit for British tourists. Who until then would have considered a day trip to France a holiday abroad. And as a result millions of British visited over the ensuing decade. Since then visitor numbers from the UK have dropped away somewhat but they still account for well over 50% of all arrivals at Arrecife airport annually.

The tourist infrastructure has also been developed considerably on Lanzarote since these early days and now there are three main resorts for visitors to choose form. Along with a selection of accommodation in the countryside. Where tourists can now find an array of fincas and quiet rural hotels.

Playa Blanca in the south is home to the largest concentration of modern hotels. But fortunately none of these are high rise as that type of construction was outlawed on Lanzarote back in the early 1970´s. Instead most of these new edifices blend in pleasingly with their surroundings. And offer visitors plenty of four and five star comfort to boot.

Such is the popularity of villa accommodation on the island that many tourists end up buying their own property here. Prices have fallen a lot since the economic crisis first broke and as a result there are now plenty of bargains around for anyone with the liquidity to buy.
